Riverside - Kids clean up Murdishaw

24 November 2009

Children from Gorsewood and Murdishaw West primary schools helped clean up the streets of Murdishaw to encourage neighbourhood respect.

The community clean up was organised by landlord Riverside and Four Estates community initiative.

Riverside enlisted the help of their grounds maintenance contractor Connaught in the clean up, while children worked under the watchful eye of Daren Whitfield of Four Estates and Riverside staff based in Runcorn.

The community clean up is a first for Riverside in the Murdishaw area of Runcorn and is highlighting the issues of fly tipping and graffiti, to encourage youngsters to develop pride in their neighbourhoods and keep them free from litter.

Riverside’s neighbourhood housing officer Sarah Conway said: “We hold regular community clean up days with school children in other areas of Runcorn. It’s a great way to raise respect for the environment and our neighbourhoods with children and their families.”

Darren Whitfield of Four Estates added: "It was a really enjoyable event for all the children involved. We want them to show pride in where they live and to respect the area"

Riverside is working with developers Seddon to build more new homes in the Murdishaw area for rent and shared ownership. A mix of three and four bedroom houses and two bedroom bungalows will be completed in 2010.
