Riverside - Day to drive down crime

15 February 2010

Social landlord Riverside teamed up with Merseyside Police for a Crime Prevention Day in Haydock.
Giveaways at the event at Haydock Library included bike locks, light timers, purse alarms and anti-theft tax disc holders. Residents were also able to take along property such as iPods and laptops to be marked so they can be returned to their rightful owners if they are found as being stolen.

Riverside Neighbourhood Housing Officer Tanya Marsh said: “We are committed to making our neighbourhoods cleaner, greener and safer. This event was an opportunity to give residents simple yet effective advice and tools to reduce their chances of falling victim to crime.”

Police Community Support Officer Natalie Gabriel said: “Thieves are out there and watching for opportunities to strike. We held this event to help prevent crime and raise awareness so people do everything they can to avoid becoming a target.”

Other partners who supported the event included Safer Communities, St Helens Youth Offending Team, Neighbourhood Action Group and Helena Partnerships.
